Annoying Little Sisters

We all have them. And if you don’t then fall on your knees and be thankful that you don’t, because it means that you get to hold on to your sanity a little longer. They say that hell hath no wrath like a woman scorned? Wrong! Hell hath no wrath like a little sister in the middle of a tantrum.

If you ever had a younger female sibling, you know what I’m talking about. Since they were born a little bit after you, by means of iteration, they tend to be little more spoilt than you are…or a lot. It depends on how much longer. They always find themselves in the most awkward types of trouble, for which you will inevitably be blamed, because you are the older brother, and you are supposed to keep your little sister out of trouble. If we could keep our little sisters out of trouble, we would have already cured world hunger, cancer and achieved world peace. Yes, it is that impossible. You also have to pray that there is no situation where there is one of anything left because, it is obvious who is going to get it. Your parents somehow tend to overlook the fact that they just got themselves into the aforementioned awkward trouble. Oh wait, that’s right. That was YOUR fault.

The worst part comes with the physical assaults. When you are younger you tend to follow your instincts and hit back. Then you come to find out that you can’t hit them by virtue that they are girls. You think that’s all well and cool of course until you find out that it’s not a two way street. They are fully allowed to hit you. So you either hit them back and get in trouble or complain to your parents, which usually ends in them saying something like “Leave you brother alone” before they return to whatever they were doing before you interrupted them.

But despite all this, a lot of good has come from being an older brother. When they aren’t beating you up, they look up to you. They ask for help with their homework, or when they’re afraid of a spider that’s sitting in the shower, or any other problem they have that they don’t feel like going to mom or dad with. You learn what it is like to have someone depend on you, and how to treat the women in your life. And you’ll always have someone to ask girl questions. I guess that’s why you become protective of them. Because somewhere between that annoying tantrums and the vicious one-sided fights, you realize that she’s your sister. And that you love her.

That said, it’s ok to dislike them every now and then.
